More Fun with Vocab! April 2, 2015

Today in class, you worked with your topic groups to identify what you think are the most important words about your topic that EVERYONE will be held responsible for knowing.  I will collect those across the classes and use your votes to decide which terms you need to know.  Then, I will give you a vocab list with definitions so you can study.

HOMEWORK:  Next, we did a run-through example of the homework you are going to do tonight. The directions are:

  • Choose a vocab term from your list.  Put the term in the center oval.
  • Define the term IN YOUR OWN WORDS.  You may look up definitions, but then you need to restate them in words that make sense to you!
  • Synonyms/related words - if there is another way to say your same word, write that here.  If there isn't an exact synonym, write down words that have similar meanings.
  • Antonyms/opposites - write down terms that are UNLIKE your central word.
  • Explain how the word is related to your TOPIC (westward movement, immigration, industrialization).
If worse comes to worse, complete AS MUCH OF THE WEB as you can.  I have put a picture of our sample web below, along with some tips and suggestions:
